The drawings below are observational value studies done in charcoal. The Art III class "T.P.ed" the room. We then cast light with track lighting, and the students chose a section of the installation to draw. Students were encouraged to use a full range of value, create contrast, show attention to detail, and create a gradation of value in the background to give the illusion of atmospheric perspective. The Art IV class focused on drawing a white sheet which we hung from a bulletin board. Students worked hard to realistically render the folds of the drapery. This is much harder than it sounds!
